Information Technology (IT) Positions on Board Cruise Ships
The operation and maintenance of all areas of the Cruise Ship’s onboard computer systems, both hardware and software is the responsibility of the Information Technology department. Candidates are required to have experience of the major software applications and an in-depth knowledge of network operating systems management, techniques, configuration and topologies as the entire hotel department is operated by an internal computer system.
Internet Cafes and computer centres are available onboard Cruise Ships worldwide. The way in which they operate varies according to the Cruise Company or Concessionaire running the facilities. The computer labs are overseen by a computer officer or Internet cafe manager. Internet service onboard a cruise ship is transmitted via satellite, resulting in a much higher cost involved in collecting regular e-mail. Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of computers, computer & Internet services and major software applications.
Cruise Ship Shipboard Systems Manager: Responsible for the day to day operations of AS/400/Windows NT/POS platforms.) Candidates will require to have 1-2 years AS/400 and Win/NT experience. POS knowledge an advantage. Contracts will be for a minimum of 4-6 months. Must speak fluent English.
Salary: (approx £2,500 – £2,850 per month).
Cruise Ship Computer Systems Hardware Technician: Responsible for installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrading of computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, peripheral equipment and electronic mail systems; assesses user training needs and trains users in effective use of applications. Candidates must have completed two years of college-level coursework in computer science, information technology or a related field and two years of general computer installation, maintenance and repair experience. Must speak fluent English.
Salary: (approx £2,400 – £2,700 per month).
Cruise Ship Internet Manager: Candidates must possess basic computer knowledge, proficiency in Microsoft office, sales and managerial experience and excellent customer service skills. Must be creative, self motivated, multi-task oriented and possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Energetic and outgoing personality is a plus. Must speak fluent English.
Salary:. (approx £1,500 – £1,800 per month)
THE ABOVE SALARIES ARE AVERAGE SALARIES. IN ADDITION YOUR FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION IS INCLUDED AND YOUR SALARY IS NORMALLY TAX FREE IF YOUR CONTRACT IS FOR SIX MONTHS AND OVER. THESE CONTRACTS ARE RENEWABLE.
